“O woman, great is your faith!”
In Jesus’ conversations with the rich young man and the Pharisees, His words may seem uncharacteristically harsh and uncaring. The words He spoke to the Canaanite woman may even sound prejudiced.
Without the correct interpretation of Jesus’ conversation with the Canaanite woman, we will misunderstand His words and His unconditional love for Gentiles. As we study the stories of Jesus’ interactions with other Gentiles, we see a clear pattern emerging—Gentiles were always loved and included in God’s plan of salvation.
When we understand His words, we hear words of love, grace, and truth. If we look behind His words to see Jesus’ motivation and His heart for the person, His words make perfect sense, and reflect His love for all people.
